چکیده

In order to clarify the nature of the additional phase transition at H1(T ) < Hc(T ) of the layered antiferromagnetic (AF) insulator FeBr2 as found by Aruga Katori et al. (1996) we measured the intensity of different Bragg-peaks in different scattering geometries. Transverse AF ordering is observed in both AF phases, AF I and AF II. Its order parameter exhibits a peak at T1 = T (H1) in temperature scans and does not vanish in zero field. Possible origins of the step-like increase of the transverse ferromagnetic ordering induced by a weak in-plane field component when entering AF I below T1 are discussed.   Neutron scattering is proved to be a vital probe in unveiling the magnetic properties of high temperature superconductors (HTSC). Detailed information about the energy and momentum dependence of the magnetic dynamics of HTSC have been obtained directly by this technique. Over the past decade by improving the crystal growth methods, large and high quality single crystals of HTSC, which are ess...

Incommensurate magnetism in FeAs strips: neutron scattering from CaFe(4)As(3).

Magnetism in the orthorhombic metal CaFe(4)As(3) was examined through neutron diffraction for powder and single crystalline samples. Incommensurate [q(m) ≈ (0.37-0.39) × b*] and predominantly longitudinally (|| b) modulated order develops through a 2nd order phase transition at TN = 89.63(6) K with a 3D Heisenberg-like critical exponent β = 0.365(6). A 1st order transition at T2 = 25.6(9)  K is...

Neutron-scattering studies of magnetism in multiferroic HoMnO3 „invited..

Hexagonal HoMnO3 is a frustrated antiferromagnet TN=72 K ferroelectric TC=875 K with a rich magnetic phase diagram consisting of multiple temperatureand field-dependent phases. Previously observed anomalies in the dielectric constant at magnetic phase transitions indicate strong coupling between the ferroelectricity and magnetism. Neutron-diffraction measurements in a magnetic field reveal new ...

Neutron scattering—The key characterization tool for nanostructured magnetic materials

The novel properties of materials produced using nanoscale manufacturing processes often arise from interactions across interfaces between dissimilar materials. Thus, to characterize the structure and magnetism of nanoscale materials demands tools with interface specificity. Neutron scattering has long been known to provide unique and quantitative information about nuclear and magnetic structur...
